Luang Prabang - Gateway to Laos: Part 2

Click here to read Part 1 of this post if you haven't already.

The next day, we rented a motorbike and headed out into the countryside to find the famous Kuang Si Falls, supposedly some of the prettiest waterfalls in Southeast Asia.

Some terraced rice paddy fields.

Close to the waterfalls, we parked the bike and walked along a woodland path.
Passing a bear sanctuary.
It didn't take long to reach Kuang Si Falls. From here on out, we would climb a hill and pass dozens of turquoise, terraced falls that looked straight out of a fairytale.

Paradise on Earth.

The highlight of Kuang Si is this towering cascade of perfect water, easily the most beautiful waterfall either of us have seen.

At one point we tried reaching the top of the waterfall via a steep path in the woods, but due to inclement weather we decided it wasn't worth the slippery climb.
Riding back towards Luang Prabang.

Caught this nice view of the city in the distance.
That evening we ate at Lao Lao Garden again, this time accompanied by some friendly cats.

Luang Prabang was an appropriately relaxed introduction to Laos, a country which is itself remarkably tranquil compared to its nearby neighbours. The town was full of colour and pretty sights, and Kuang Si Falls were a great taster of the beauty to be found in the countryside. We would soon take a bus south to Vang Vieng, the party capital of Laos, where we would find even more stunning scenery to enjoy.
